HGIBO 1/144 Gundam Astaroth Quick build and review

Ok, I decided to pick this guy up from amiami.com since I had a shipment within the same month, and since shipping is nearly the same with or without Astaroth, I decided to go with it. This won't be a formal review like I did before since I was building this in my rented house. So I will just do a quick review of this and show you the basics and details of the kit. I will not be using the sticker provided with this kit except for the eyes as I think I might have plans for this kit.

Well to start things off first, this kit utilizies the barbatos gundam frame 1 exactly the same with the only exception of a new face part I presume, and also a new waist parts for the side skirt binders of this kit. The rest of them are used so which means if you have the barbatos already regardless it being the first HG or the 6th form, you can pretty much mix and match this to become your own barbatos custom. Articulation wise, it's pretty much going to be the same as the barbatos.

The giant hand glove or fist, whatever you want to call it, is articulated pretty good. The three giant fingers move independently on the base joints holding it to the palm. Additionally they gave you the option to make the arms reversible or if you want, buy two of these and make both of the arms equipped with the blue parts. The large buckler on the left hand doesn't seem to hinder elbow movement so far so it's pretty pose able. Most of the parts here are just sandwhiched together with the frame so expect quite a lot of seam lines in the forearms and the right shoulder.

There's two square slots on the giant fist for you to equip the buckler on. So you have a choice to have the fist extend more or have it hide a bit under the buckler. Also for my kit, the buckler seems to easily detach itself from the giant fist. Same goes for the giant fist falling of from the left arm.

Pretty much build this guy head on and done without the side skirt binders and the weapons done. The red part on the stomach makes this kit a bit more colorful and slightly more armor in that part unlike the First HG barbatos kit. The front skirts are molded together but are separable since they have their own ball joints. The only problem I have is that they are a bit too small for this kit, even smaller than the Barbatos. It doesn't close up the leg joints to good. One thing I also have to comment on this kit are the feet. It just doens't look good for this kit. It mostly lies in the design of the feet but I feel they could at least have done it slightly better.Probably it's just me I guess.

Weapons wise with this kit, most of them are as I said sandwich parts together into forming one piece. Same goes for the Giant buster sword with fold able ability. Do note of the above pic. The middle part holding it together has a gimmick for you to extend it and fold it for storage mode. MY guess is that playing with this too much might cause it to become loose and eventually make your buster sword become flimsy and not staying together for storage or when deployed. So be careful when playing with the sword too often. Remember, gunpla kits aren't toys.

Pretty much the finished product of this kit. As in the second pic, It can seem to hold the sword one handed but as you can see the hand is forcefully held in that position since the sword is too heavy. There is a second handle for it to support the sword with both hands making it able to hold the sword upwards. And the giant gauntlet doesn't seem to be able to assist you in holding this sword. It's a just for show gimmick. The rifle seems to be a pretty standard submachinegun rifle though this is the first of it's kinda to debut in gunplas. There is also a combat knife the comes with this kit, pretty standard nothing of interest. Do note the side binders are moveable on a hinge at the end of the binders near the waist, so it can easily be moved away for posing capability. Wish I could do this kit review on thoroughly and in a proper place but guess this will do. Overall, This is a pretty good kit, and a pretty fast kit to assemble. There are a few minor problems with this kit as I said earlier but it doesn't seem to affect the kit in anyway other than that sword attachment. So far I have this kit posing it holding the giant sword with one hand and so far it seems ok. Not sure how long will it last though. I'll probably try to fiddle with it to make him hold the sword upwards with one hand.
